Meeting Date:     November 11, 2011

Meeting Time:    1:00 to 2:30 PM

Present:               Nancy Blake, Ann Fillback Watt, Staci Francis, Ann Halbach, Rebecca (Bex) Quigley, Patricia (Trici) Schraeder

Agenda:

Announcements

  • Members are reminded that if they are not able to attend a CASI meeting, the CASI Bi Laws Section II. (i) states that members “shall attempt to recruit” a replacement who will attend on their behalf.

  • Staci Francie reported that she will attend a UW System HR Conference next week. The immediate focus will be on developing new HR policies and procedures for classified staff. The overall goal is to develop new HR policies and procedures for the entire campus by 2013.

Old Business

  • Approval of Minutes

Motion made by Trici Schraeder and second by Nancy Blake to approve the Oct. 2011 CASI Meeting Minutes; Motion passed

  • Academic Planning Council (APC)

Staci reported that she was not successful in recruiting a Category B Academic Staff member to serve as a CASI Member and serve as an APC Rep. Thus, Bex Quigley will continue to attend APC meetings and report back to CASI. Staci also reported that Linda gave an excellent, short, verbal report to the APC explaining the roles and responsibilities of the three current CASI subcommittees. Staci also reported that the SOE APC Strategic Priorities will be renewed every two years. The APC Current Strategic Priorities focus on improving communications, increasing diversity and inclusiveness, and developing better information technology.

New Business

  • Sub Committee Reports

1. Welcome Initiative Sub Committee Report
Ann Fillback Watt will join this subcommittee. Bex Quigley reported that the subcommittee plans to change the venue by which newly-hired SOE Academic Staff are welcomed to campus. Instead of individual visits and dissemination of welcome-to-campus packets, a once-a-year Welcome Reception is proposed. The first half of the Welcome Reception would be devoted to a Question/Answer Session with the Dean and Senior Staff comprising a panel. The second half of the Welcome Reception would be devoted to showcasing CASI initiatives (e.g., introducing past recipients of Professional Development Grants) as well as providing information about campus-wide activities of interest to newly hired SOE academic staff (e.g. ASA, MASA, Mentor Program, etc.). The first Welcome Reception will be held in spring 2012.

2. Professional Development Grant Sub Committee Report

The committee received two new grant applications. A meeting will be set later this month to evaluate the proposals.

3. Performance Review Sub Committee Report

The Committee met twice since the October CASI meeting. They are creating a performance review template. Additional research is being conducted regarding what other campuses use (e.g., University of MN).

  • All CASI members present at the meeting agreed that we should extend invitations to Dawn Crim to attend the January CASI meeting and to Dean Julie Underwood to attend a spring 2012 CASI meeting.

  • The idea of conducting a SOE Academic Staff Survey was tabled for a future CASI meeting.

Meeting Adjourned 2:30 PM

Respectfully Submitted,

Trici Schraeder
